BIOGRAPHY

 

Sara Maganzini already having earned a Diploma in Clarinet, began studying Conducting at an early age, enrolling at ISEB (Istituto Superiore Europeo Bandistico) in Mezzocorona (I) where, whilst studying with M°Jan Cober, she obtained the Three-Year Diploma, for this occasion she conducted the Rundfunk Blasorchester Leipzig (D). She then continued her studies at the Maastricht Conservatorium (NL), still with M° Cober, where she obtained the Bachelor in HaFaBra Conducting in September of 2012, for this occasion conducting the Koninklijk Harmonie Eijsden (NL). From 2013 in order to continue her Conducting studies she attended a school in Slovenia, with M° Jan Cober, working with the Slovenian Army professional military band and the Croatian Navy professional military band. In 2014 she returned to ISEB in order to attend the “Advanced” two-year course, studying with M° Josè Rafael Pascual Vilaplana (E) and M° Alex Schillings (NL) which she finished in June 2016. Since 2015 she has begun studying Composition at the Conservatorio di Musica “Bonporti” in Riva del Garda (I). From 2017 she studied HaFaBra conducting at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag (NL) in the class of M°Alex Schillings where she obtained the Masters in June 2020.

 

In the meantime, in 2009 and 2013, she participated as a clarinetist in the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (NL) with the Orchestra di Fiati “Rosmini” di Rovereto (now RWO), conducted by M°Andrea Loss, obtaining excellent results, and in 2013 and 2015 took part in the summer and winter tournee of the European Youth Wind Band with concerts in Luxembourg, Belgium and The Netherlands, during which she had the honour of playing with the Simon Bolivar Youth Wind Orchestra of Venezuela on the occasion of the World Music Contest 2013.

 

As a conductor she has led the Jugendkapelle Munterland, with whom she participated in a contest, gaining first place in the youth category; since 2010 she conducts the Banda Istituto “Guetti” in Tione, with whom she won the “Indicibil(in)canti” contest in 2013. She has conducted the Banda Comunale di Pinzolo and their junior bands for several years. In May of 2014 she formed the Banda Rappresentativa Giovanile della Val Rendena e Busa di Tione “Giovani Note” with whom she participated in the “Bacchetta d’Oro” contest in Fiuggi in the Giovanile Europea category. With great enthusiasm, since 2013, she has continued the musical project of the Banda Rappresentativa delle Giudicarie, which was started by M° Puliafito in 2011. For the period 2014-2016, she has found great satisfaction conducting the Banda Rappresentativa Giovanile della Federazione dei Corpi Bandistici della Provincia di Trento, concluding this project with an excellent 1st place at the International Youth Band Contest in Slovenia.

 

At present time she is conducting the Banda Istituto “Guetti” di Tione di Trento (TN), the Banda Sociale Mori-Brentonico (TN) and the Corpo Bandistico “G.B.Pedersoli” di Chiari (BS), thanks to which she had the pleasure of working with important personalities such as M°Alex Schillings, composer Carlo Pirola and euphonium soloist Prof. Steven Mead. Since 2018 she is part of the ISEB (Istituto Superiore Europeo Bandistico) Conducting School organization team based in Rovereto (Italy) and since February 2021 holds the position of vice-president. She is a founder member of the EAWBC (European Association of Women Band Conductors) founded in the Spring 2020 and based in Genève (Switzerland).
Since 2014 she is occasionally invited abroad as a guest conductor and in 2015 was nominated International Delegate for the Spanish association of wind band conductors (ANDB). In July 2016 she participated in the International Conducting Contest in Augsburg (D) and in March 2017 in Staufen (D) took part in the pre-selection course to participate in the Conducting Contest at the World Music Contest 2017 in Kerkrade (NL).
In January 2019 she took part in the Bilbao Conducting Course and Contest where she was selected among 52 conductors and reached the Final round. Finally, in April 2020 she was selected to take part in the 8th European Conductors Competition organised by the European Brass Band Association in Palanga, Lithuania (to be rescheduled for Covid-19) and was invited to take part in a masterclass with the Marinierskapel der Koninklijke Marine (NL) which will also be rescheduled.

Since 2010, whilst still studying, Sara regularly teaches music theory for various local wind bands, has taught clarinet at the Scuola Musicale delle Giudicarie and Scuola Musicale “Eccher” (music schools), has held first-approach-to-music courses for children, and held music projects in local primary schools. She has always cared about youth musical education and every year with the Banda d’Istituto Guetti she organises a full calendar of concert-lessons for primary and secondary schools. Since 2014 she is self-employed as a professional conductor and teacher in both Italy and abroad. Since 2020 she is a music teacher at the I.C.del Chiese public secondary school (Italy).
